LETTER FROM DIANE DIMASSA July 2004 Listen Up: The Michigan Festival is not anti-trans. Michigan is a gathering for "women who have grown up female in our patriarchal society." Go back and read that sentence again. It is for women who have been at the ass-end of life here on The Planet of the Apes their whole life. This usually does not apply to MTF's. The statement inherently validates that there are other kinds of women as well, but that this particular gathering is for the above described. Ok? Let's move on... As for the play, the Hothead series does not revolve around Daphne. Daphne does not even appear in Hothead Paisan until Issue 14! Anything that is outside of Hothead and her anger is a sub-plot. It doesn't matter if Daphne is in the play or not. It doesn't matter if ANYONE besides Hothead and Chicken are in the play! And just as an aside, can you show me where in the Hothead series it says that Daphne is an MTF?? Daphne is of INDETERMINATE gender..not male, not female, not transexual...complete, fully, mysteriously indeterminate. That is the whole point of her. So you have categorized Daphne and decided on your own what she is. Now for the nuts and bolts of casting...this musical is the property of Animal. I don't have anything to do with the casting or anything else. If you want to persue this non-issue, email Animal. But I'd suggest to you to not waste any more precious energy coming after people who are on your side. Thank you, Sincerely, Diane DiMassa
